DJ Soso set to stun Kenyan fans

Johannesburg’s own Afro Tech sensation, DJ Soso, is taking his unique sound back to Kenya, where he's quickly become a fan favourite. Known offstage as Lebohang Ramoabi Martin Motaung, DJ Soso is set to perform in Nairobi alongside fellow South African heavyweight, Heavy K, in what promises to be an explosive night of Afro House mastery.

This marks DJ Soso’s third Kenyan tour in under two years, underscoring his rising popularity in East Africa. “Kenya felt like home from day one,” he said in an exclusive interview before jetting off. “The locals love Amapiano and Afro House. If I had my way, I’d have a monthly residency there.”

DJ Soso’s journey from campus DJ at Wits University to international performer is one of grit and passion. While studying Law, he was already turning heads on the decks. Today, he balances his legal profession with a flourishing music career that includes founding his own label, Ubizo Cafe, and releasing the genre-bending 3 Step EP, ‘Three’.

The upcoming Nairobi performance, Soso notes, is more than just another gig—it’s a homecoming of sorts. “The promoter who booked me in Kenya last year is bringing me back, which shows I made an impression. This time, my videographer is coming along to document the whole experience.”

This international leg adds to a growing list of achievements, including performing in Ghana, Botswana, and Eswatini, and signing an international deal with UK-based Tribe Records. With roots in Soweto and born in Ficksburg, DJ Soso’s cross-continental appeal is a testament to the global resonance of South African dance music.

Beyond spinning decks and studio sessions, DJ Soso is also diving into other creative ventures, including launching a comic book series, “Groove Adventures with DJ Soso”—a first for a South African DJ.

With Kenya ready to dance and DJ Soso more determined than ever, fans can expect a high-energy celebration of African sound. As he continues to blend storytelling, rhythm, and cultural exchange, DJ Soso’s star is only getting brighter.
